GRID-Tsukuba Pamphlet

It has passed about 3 years since the Center for Global Environmental Research (CGER) was assigned as a cooperative center of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/Global Resource Information Database (GRID) network.

The missions of the GRID-Tsukuba center are 1) to provide decision makers and researchers with global environmental data and information, 2) to produce socioeconomic datasets for global environmental research and administration, and 3) to develop technologies of geographical information and remotely-sensed data processing and disseminate them to the developing countries.

Especially in terms of distribution of UNEP/GRID's global environmental datasets, since the start of data distribution, lots of users have used them for various purposes. University professors and researchers of the governmental research institutes are main customers of these datasets, and additionally, in recent years, people in education have paid much attention to the datasets.

GRID-Geneva, technical headquarter of GRID network, has already published "GRID Global Data Sets : Documentation Summaries" which explains data format as well as introduction of each datasets.

This is very useful for the users to read the data into their computer and apply them to the research work, but it is not good materials for the general public and non-experts.

So in order to give all the current and potential users intuitive understanding of GRID's global datasets and their meaning, we published GRID Data Book which contains a brief explanation, colorful image of each datasets.

We sincerely hope this publication is of help for the current and potential users of UNEP/GRID datasets.

As to the detail of the GRID global datasets, please refer to the report "GRID Global Data Sets : Documentation Summaries "(CGER-D005-'94) of CGER.
