Appendix 3. Record
format of one data line of Level-2 Data
One file (per cruise, averagely 22 hours) consists of averagely 8000
data lines (800kbyte). Each line is
shown by the following sample:
92/
6/ 5!12:30:14! 8.3982! 8.3429! 31.9881! 19.3804! 38.66
19!157.5209954!135.1687366!
34.6273110! 14.571#
Symbols ! and # denote [Tab] and [CR], respectively. The variables denote the date,
time, pH1 (0.1), pH2 (0.1), S
(0.1per mill), T (0.1C), Fluorescence (0.1 equivalent fluoresceine solution in
g/l), Day of year (0.000012day), Longitude, Latitude, Cumulative distance from
the departure port, respectively. Their
accuracies are shown in the parenthesis, although all the single- or
double-precisioned numerals are recorded as the result of Level-1 to Level-2
conversion. The nominal accuracies
of the latitude and longitude are 0.1minute (0.0017deg) and hence 0.18km of
cumulative distance. However, it
takes 20 to 40 seconds for the sea water to pass the pipe from the ship's
bottom to the measurement system.
This time lag causes the shift ahead from the actual location of the sea
water, which is estimated as 200 to 400m.
The values of precision are thought to be better than those of accuracy,
although they are not clearly defined between the dispersion in the tangential
direction during the trip in the pipe.
