The Center for Global Environmental Research (CGER) is promoting the Global Environmental Database, in which various information on the global environment is collected, processed, archived and provided in an easy-to-use way to researchers as well as to the general public.

In order to facilitate the scientific understanding, future projection and impact assessment of global environmental change, international and multidisciplinary information is of utmost importance. Environmental problems such as climate change are now recognized as being caused by human activities, and mitigation countermeasures are being discussed. It is, therefore, essential that research results on environmental problems are provided not only to researchers, but also to the public in an easily accessible way.

At the Office for Global Environmental Data Integration and Analytics, we collect monitoring data and analysis results of the research conducted at CGER along with various data relating to environmental issues and other multidisciplinary research, process them, provide a unified search system and graphic tool and release the data to the public in an easy-to-use form. It is expected that through this, individual research results of independent groups can be integrated and their mutual use can be facilitated.

The activities of the Global Environmental Database are the following:

  • 1. Maintenance, management and improvement of CGER server system
  • 2. Development of databases for observational data obtained from CGER Global Environmental Monitoring Projects and Climate Change Research Programs, and data provision to the public
  • 3. Development of a database for social sciences with emphasis on climate change
  • 4. Development of tools which facilitate analysis of global environmental data
  • 5. International cooperation and other related activities.

The Global Environmental Database provides various types of data and information related to global environmental issues such as climate change. Visit our database here.
